How to Burn the Perfect Candle

You might think it's a bit odd to have a whole blog post dedicated to burning the perfect candle... But believe us, it's an art and you want to get it right!

To get the most from your Kymani scented candle, follow these tips & thank us later.

Burning:

We recommend burning for 3-5 hours at a time, or until the melted wax reaches the edge of the glass. This helps to prevent the candle from tunnelling and reduces the amount of wax wasted.

BUT - due to the tapered nature of our amber candle vessel, the wax may not reach the edge on the first couple of burns. If burned correctly, this will melt down with future burns, leaving no wax wastage at the end of the candle!

Wicks:

Keep your wicks trimmed! Now we know this may seem a little fancy, but trimming the wicks to a length of 5mm after each burn will prevent the candle smoking the next time you light it! Make sure you trim them after the candle has cooled, and

Extinguishing:

Of course most of us blow our candles out, but we recommend using a candle snuffer to extinguish your candle – it’s the safest way. You don’t want hot molton wax all over your surfaces, or worse, splattering on you!

We see so many candle makers recommending a lid or cloche to extinguish candles, but we advise you to steer clear! This traps the smoke in the vessel and wax as it cools, which affects the scent for future burns.

Storage:

Ensure the wax is kept free-from dust & debris and remove any ash from wick trimming as soon as possible. If your candle has solidified before you trim your wick, any debris should just tip out.

We love displaying our candles on our shelves with a cloche to keep them dust free, but just make sure there’s no smoke trapped as the wax cools.

Our clean candles made with our all-natural wax blend can be a little sensitive. Temperature and light can affect the appearance of the candle, so we recommend storing in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight!

Safety:

We know our destination-inspired scents can transport you to dreamy locations, but after 4-5 hours you will need to come back to reality and extinguish the candle.

Always ensure the candle is burned on a heatproof surface, away from draughts and out of reach of children and pets.

Kymani candles are rigorously tested, and our luxury amber vessels have been through a lot, but to make sure they don’t overheat, or burn any surfaces we recommend you stop burning when there is less than 1cm of wax left in the glass.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you’ve followed our tips, you shouldn’t need to troubleshoot your candle, but we know it’s not always possible. So, here’s a couple of tips on troubleshooting the most common issues:

Tunnelling

We know sometimes you’ll have to extinguish the candle sooner than you’d like, and as a result the candle may start to tunnel.

You don’t need to worry if this happens towards the middle or end of your candle, or if the wax is almost at the edge of the vessel – just burn for a little longer the next time and it should catch up!

If there’s more than 1cm of un-melted wax around the edge of the vessel we recommend using a candle lamp to reset the wax before you burn the candle again or use the trusted foil method to restore evenness on your next burn. This isn’t failproof – if the candle has tunnelled over a few burns and there is a lot of un-melted wax around the edge, these methods may flood the wick and the candle will not burn!

Air bubbles, Craters & Discolouration:

This is completely normal with candles made from naturally derived ingredients. It happens when the candle is exposed to extreme temperatures or sunlight. This shouldn’t affect the performance of the candle at all, so recommend you leave it alone and burn as normal!
